How did z/XPF come about?

Dave Day has spent his career writing systems-level software, with a concentration in performance-measuring tools.  He began his career in programming in 1977, and has worked in the field continuously since then.

The z/XPF story began in October of 2005, when Dave realized that there was great room for improvement in profiling technology.  Dave designed z/XPF from the beginning to take advantage of interfaces that had recently appeared in the z/OS operating system, reasoning that this would provide a superior, more accurate result.

Four years and 175,000 lines of code later, z/XPF is now ready to go into the marketplace.  During his development effort, Dave Day used z/XDC to debug his code (Thank you, Mr. Day!).

As a ColeSoft customer, it was almost inevitable that Dave contact Bob Shimizu.  After Dave Cole met with Dave Day, he decided that z/XPF offers great potential, both to existing z/XDC customers (who are naturally concerned about application performance) AND to the greater data processing community as well.  So, we began to work together. It is with great pride that we offer you z/XPF, a profiling product that is fit to stand alongside our debugging tool z/XDC.  Welcome aboard, Mr. Day!
